Clubhouse, which is headquartered in San Francisco, California, was founded in 2020 by Paul Davison and Rohan Seth

The two founders had previously launched multiple startups in the social media space – none of which every really took off.

They reconnected after Seth’s daughter was born with a rare genetic disease and Davison helped his family to set up a fundraiser.

Soon after, they launched an app called Talkshow, which allowed people to schedule and host radio-like live programs.

When the Covid pandemic began to wreak havoc, they rebranded the app to Clubhouse and made it available to a selected minority of iOS users.

Clubhouse soon became the talk of the town and even attracted celebrities like Jared Leto, Ashton Kutcher, and Kevin Hart.

Twitter, a year after Clubhouse launched, allegedly bid $4 billion to acquire the app but the founders ultimately declined.

Usage has since dropped off substantially as lockdown measures across the globe were lifted. Clubhouse also had to lay off many of its employees.

However, the founders still have tens of millions in the bank and are now trying to slowly revitalize growth.
